Ask a Question

Can I import PSD files or do I need to choose png or jpg? Also if I import a 1000px image and use it at 200px, does Nice Page reduce the size and compress, or should I make images to size? I'm not sure how automated things are at this point.

You are right because of this issue you reported the page size increases and affects the load time making website slow. Even though it’s a nice tool to build websites basic functions are missing.

Here is my post/question with images -
https://nicepage.com/questions/82932/page-size-causing-site-to-slow-down

I if I reduce the image size the images get blurry on large devices. Shocking part is that we can’t use relative url where I can store images on the server and then just add URLs fir images in gallery.

The images themselves arent being compressed at all in reality the way i'm doing it with Joomla and JSpeed (CMS = content management system indeed). Lossless compression is indeed a thing. https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/computer-science/lossless-compression

If you go to gtmetrix.com and it finds images "problems" it'll even do lossless compression for you, for free. standard jpg is oldschool and no longer "recommended". New more optimised formats are JPEG2000 and WEBP. Since you're using static pages, i'm guessing the best solution for you would be to load the pages in gtmetrix. See their recommendation and then download the optimized images from there.

Yes, I got that Nicepage does not process PSD file. Thanks for your help.

I'm a bit confused about the compression. I generally compress my images in photoshop before I build a website. I was not aware if Nicepage had some type of compression function and if it could be controlled. When you reference native compression, are you taking about the concept in general, or does Nicepage offer compression that can be controlled? I'll dig into that.

You said you are using CMS on all your sites (Content Management System?) I'd be curious to learn what extension you are using for compression, but I don't believe there is such a thing as lossless compression. A jpg in and of itself is a compressed image unless you are using some other file type. Just a little confused on this end, but I'd like to learn what you are using.

I am not using Joomla or Word Press, I am exporting direct to html, so I'm not sure an extension would be a solution for me, unless it is an extension for Nicepage and not for one of the CMS apps.

Thanks again for your response. I haven't used Nicepage for about a year, so I needed a refresher answer on a couple questions before I dive back in. Much appreciated.

Nicepage can't load PSD files, as i said, they're not images. As to the scaling. I follow recommendations by gtmetrix.com

Using CSS scaled images is just fine, it's only that gtmetrix in that case will issue a "warning" that that's not the optimal and their recommended way as it slightly increases page load time. That's all it means. As to file compression i never apply native compression. I'm using a CMS on all my sites and an extension to do lossless compression on-demand

So for maximum efficiency I should make for instance a 500px image for desktop, 300px for tablet, 200 for phone? Instead of just letting CSS do the changing for me.

I wasn't sure if Nice Page was psd friendly and would automatically make other changes. I think I am confusing Nice Page with other builders like GoDaddy. Anyway, got it, make jpg and png files.

And I should apply maximum compression per my need to again maximize the speed of the website. That sounds like your direction.

Thank you for the quick response.

PSD is not an image type. it's a project file for photoshop. Nicepage will NOT compress the image (file size as in xxx kb or xxx MB will remain the same), it will however RESIZE the file using CSS (the actual original file dimensions remain untouched).

Some SEO recommendations are however to NOT resize using CSS but instead server properly scaled images. Meaning if you have an original of 1000x1000px for example in your case, and you only use it at 200x200px, then export the original again using those dimensions and use that exported file.
