Ask a Question

Hi Nicepage Team,

Thank you for the consistent support you have provided me.

I have already created and published two websites via Nicepage, and they are both live now. This time, I would like to explore Nicepage in more detail by exporting my website to WordPress; however, I am finding the process a bit confusing.

The Login & 404 Issue
I have published my site, but when I try to access www.mcdfi.org/wp-admin or www.mcdfi.org/wp-login.php, I receive a "404 Page Not Found" error. Does the Nicepage export automatically create these WordPress login files, or do I need to install WordPress separately via my hosting provider first?

Additionally, if I accidentally exported my site as an HTML project instead of a WordPress Theme, would that cause my /wp-admin page to be unavailable?

The Installation Method
I am using the Nicepage Desktop App. Should I use the 'Direct FTP' publish method for WordPress, or is it safer to export a .zip file and upload it through the WordPress "Appearance > Themes" menu?

Furthermore, if my website shows the homepage but all other links result in a "Page Not Found" error, is there a specific .htaccess configuration required by Nicepage to make WordPress permalinks work correctly?

Account & Plugin Sync
I have a WordPress.org account. Does the Nicepage plugin require a specific license key to be activated before the /wp-admin dashboard becomes visible, or is the plugin independent of the login page?

Finally, since I am seeing a "Page Not Found" error on my live site, does Nicepage require me to set a specific Static Front Page within the WordPress settings for the design to display correctly on my main domain?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,
Clement Mukap

Hello Clement,

Thank you for your detailed message and for using Nicepage for your projects, we truly appreciate it.

Let me clarify each point for you:

1. /wp-admin and /wp-login.php showing 404
Nicepage does not create a WordPress installation on its own. You must first install WordPress on your hosting. Only after that will URLs like /wp-admin and /wp-login.php work.

If you exported your project as HTML, then yes, this is exactly why those pages are unavailable. HTML export does not include WordPress functionality.

2. Correct workflow for WordPress
The proper steps are:

  • Install WordPress via your hosting provider
  • Log in to yourwebsite.com/wp-admin
  • Install the Nicepage plugin
  • Export your project from Nicepage as a WordPress Theme (.zip)
  • Upload it via Appearance >> Themes

This is the safest and recommended method. Direct FTP is more advanced and can cause issues if not configured properly.

3. Homepage works but other pages show 404
This is usually related to WordPress permalinks.

Please go to:
Settings >> Permalinks → click “Save Changes” (without changing anything)

This will regenerate the .htaccess file and usually resolves the issue.

4. Nicepage plugin and license
The Nicepage plugin does not control access to /wp-admin.
If /wp-admin is not accessible, it means WordPress is not installed or not configured correctly.

The license is only required to enable premium features within the builder, not for login access.

5. Static Front Page
Yes, in WordPress, you may need to set your homepage manually:

  • Go to Settings >> Reading
  • Set “Static Page”
  • Choose the homepage created by Nicepage.

In summary, your main issue is most likely that **WordPress is not installed yet**or that the site was exported as HTML rather than as a WordPress export.

To assist you further, could you please confirm:

  • Have you already installed WordPress on your hosting?
  • And did you export your project as HTML or a WordPress Theme?

Feel free to refer to our WordPress documentation.
