Difference between import template and themes

Ask a Question

Can someone clearly explain to me a concept that I don't understand?
What is the difference between importing a template created via NicePage under Joomla and Importing Colors, Typography, Site Settings and Modal Popups via the "import data" menu in the nicepage component ?
I thought the theme was included in the template and therefore I have difficulty understanding the difference between these 2 actions.
For the template, I see exactly what it is and where the data is physically stored (under the Templates folder) but for the styles, I don't understand what it is exactly and where it is physically saved. Thank you for your help

Hello Rudy,

Import theme via Extensions >> Install is for theme update. If you import content in one file with the theme you can check the boxes to import colors theme settings and menus. This file import will change your site view and pages as well as plugin theme settings like header/footer.

When you upload a file of exported content via plugin import this will just upload new pages, add them to the list of articles and no plugin theme settings will be changed, your site will be without changes.

Thank you for your response
Could you confirm where are the Site Settings imported via the plugin stored ? In specific SQL tables for the NicePage Plugin ? Correct ?

If I understand correctly, when you modify something in the "Site Colors And Fonts" menu from Nicepage Desktop, this modifies the nicepage plugin when you import the ZIP via the menu "Import Colors, Typography, Site Settings and Modal Popups"
If I modify the header for example, this will then affect all the articles created with Nicepage but not the standard Joomla articles on the site.

And if I import the .ZIP file via Joomla extensions, I update the existing template and this affects then all pages and articles on the site.
If I modify the header in a Nicepage project, it is therefore important to execute the 2 ways of importation, so that this is replicated on all the pages of the site, either via the plugin or via the template.

Last question. Who has priority over the other in this case? The Nicepage plugin or the site template?

Is this way oh thinking correct ?

Hello Rudy,

You can create the Nicepage Theme and Nicepage Content in the Desktop app.
The Nicepage Theme includes a header, footer, Blog and Post templates, and other Theme settings. You need to customize all Theme elements under the Site Colors and Fonts and Templates tabs in the Desktop app.
The Nicepage Content is a static HTML Pages created in the Desktop app.
Export window in Nicepage:

export-to-joomla.png

It means you can export the Theme with/without Content and install it on your Joomla site:
* https://nicepage.com/doc/70107/install-joomla-template-and-articles Theme with Content; upload via Joomla Extensions, when you check all boxes for "Site Colors And Fonts" and "menus" this will update your current plugin theme settings, creates new menu.
* https://nicepage.com/doc/72666/update-joomla-template-from-app Theme only; upload via Joomla Extensions, theme needs to be set as default, this will change your Joomla articles heade/footer layout, Nicepage pages will remain without changes. If you change the page template configuration, a new theme header/footer can be applied to the live pages, header and footer will remain the same for the pages opened with the plugin editor.
* https://nicepage.com/doc/73583/export-and-update-joomla-content-from-app Content only. - upload via plugin import, plugin settings will remain, and only new content will be added.
As a result, theme can be imported only via Joomla >> Extensions, file can be uploaded as an exported theme or theme+content.
There are two options to import content: under the Extensions >> Install >> theme properties and under the Nicepage menu >> Import. In the second case, Nicepage imports only pages and does not create a new Joomla menu.

For Joomla sites, Joomla general settings set in Global Configuration have higher priority.

Hello Rudy,

You are welcome.

Please note, Nicepage pages created with Nicepage Joomla Extension or imported as content can use different theme styles, by theme we mean header/footer and theme settings with live pages.
You can change page template configuration for your pages with plugin editor or in Joomla, see attached screenshots. This can be a plugin theme header and footer (Nicepage header and footer) or default theme template (Theme header and footer or Theme template).
When you import theme file only or use any other default theme (not created with Nicepage desktop) you can choose a different page template for each Nicepage page.

Feel free to reach out if you need any assistance or have further questions.
