Can't import a large WordPress ZIP

Ask a Question

We designed a relatively simple 5-page website using Nicepage Desktop. One page has a grid that uses the built-in feature to make a pop-up image appear. Pretty useful when creating a "portfolio" type page. The file exports are large due to the number of pictures in the portfolio (HTML ZIP is 12MB and the WP ZIP is 15MB).

We ran the exported HTML version locally in a browser with no problems. We tried to run the exported WordPress version locally in InstantWP but couldn't import the file. We read the other posts and changed our PHP upload size and time limitations to numbers way beyond what we were attempting but we still couldn't get the WP ZIP file with the theme+content to load.

We then tried to test it live on our Godaddy server but had similar problems, and we did change those PHP settings to huge size/time limitations (128M for uploads and posts and memory, 360 seconds for script times). So we next exported just the theme and got the theme to load first. Then we installed the Nicepage plugin, though we didn't get "asked" to do it as is shown in the Nicepage video. We activated the plug in and then went directly to "Import" to upload the content from the theme+content ZIP (the 15MB ZIP). It started but then stopped after just under 15 seconds. No error code.

Not sure what's happening. We mus have tried this a dozen times. We are running the newest versions of WordPress, Nicepage, etc. and did make the PHP limitation changes.

Hi,

The import to WP is not the Nicepage's issue. Please make sure your hosting is set to allow importing the big files.

Also, you can try to do the following; export the theme and the content without images from Nicepage.
Import the Theme and Content. Add images to the Media Library in WP. Use Nicpeage plugin to put the images where they were supposed to be.

Thank you!

Is it possible to import feature like in Powerpoint to be able to compress the images?
Sometime you take a large image and then adjust it to a smaller size but the image is still very huge.
It is creating server issues for some of us.

Hi,

We do not compress images, but your suggestion will be added to our wishlist.

Did you place the phprc file in the /home/$USERNAME/.php folder? (mistyped it as .rpr originally.)
This is where it needs to be placed in order to work properly

Example phprc (minimize the size to only cover what you will use)

upload_tmp_dir = /home/$USER/tmp
post_max_size = 20M
max_execution_time = 500
max_input_time = 500
memory_limit = 20M
display_errors = off
log_errors = 1
error_log=/home/$USER/logs/php.log
extension=intl.so

I had the same issue. It is actually nice page issue and these guys never agree. It does not work with Siteground, Bluehost and Dreamhost and any of the hosting server. Only nice page theme does not import any other theme or plugin imports real quick. Explain how is this server issue when other large files loads real quick?

Did any of you guys find a solution ever?
