Hey Peter,
I recently was able to get past my issues with SSL. The process I used to troubleshoot and correct the issue was to replace my website with a default install of Wordpress complete with the "Hello World" homepage. Once the page was up, I had my hosting company install my SSL Certificate that was included in my package. (My hosting company doesn't allow for the SSL Cert to be installed from the Cpanel.) Then I waited for that change to occur by testing for my site at . Once the change was done, I installed the pluggin RSS (Really Simple SSL.) The RSS pluggin has a simple setup. If all is correctly RSS will see the SSL cert and redirect the pages to the https:// based urls. Once the default "Hello World" page was working with RSS configured and activated I then installed the Nicepage Theme which would upload my website and install the Nicepage pluggin. In my experience, this brought the site up on SSL with no mixed content.
In my case, I was trying to understand where my SSL issue was originating. Was the issue Nicepage, was it the hosting company or was it the redirect method? This method let me test without Nicepage in the mix. At that point I was able to troubleshoot with the hosting company who up to this point was telling that Nicepage was incompatible with SSL. Clearly they were wrong. At this point I have a relatively simple website up with no mixed content or format issues.
Prior to using this method, I was trying to turn on SSL after I had loaded my theme and the Nicepage pluggin was installed. That method just didn't work for me.
Hope that helps you.
