Did that. But this only worked after updating to 1.0.111 from 1.0.105. Thanks.

In the desktop application you need to use the Site Settings option and there will be an option to switch off the footnote.
If you are working with the plug-in on the live site, then you need to press pages drop-down in the top ribbon of the editor and also choose Website >> Settings.
