I've created a site online and want to transfer it to my joomla site. How do I do this?

Ask a Question

Hi,
I have a number of Joomla sites with pages built on JoomlArt's JA Page Builder. The code for that page builder is broken beyond repair. I have been limping along with it for years but I need to replace it. I've made new pages using your online builder (I didn't want to use the desktop version because I might get pages confused with stuff already saved to my computer). I am soon going to want to swap my current sites (all Joomla 5) for the NicePage sites I'm building. But, I'm scared to death I don't know how to make this happen without problems. It would be helpful if I could hire someone to help me with this migration once all my pages are finished. If that is possible, please let me know how.

Barring being able to hire someone, can you point me to directions on how I might accomplish this transfer to NicePage? I would need instructions like I'm a seven year old :)~

I should add that the site I'm building is big, with dependencies on JomSocial and Membership Pro. It uses PayPal as a pay portal and AWS for video encoding. It also has a number of forms using ConvertForms - though I could be convinced to give that up and re-create forms in NicePage if it will speed up my site. Oh! And, I have NicePage set up as a component on my Joomla site. But, when I initially tried recreating my JABuilder pages using the Nicepage component on my Joomla site... it made my JA Pages break (specifically having two menus seemed to be a problem). So, again, that's why I started recreating my site with NicePage using the online builder. And, when the whole site is re-created on NicePage, I hope to move it all and replace the pages originally made with JA Page Builder. I hope this makes sense.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Laurie,

Thanks for using Nicepage, we are happy to hear that you enjoy working with it including all the experience you have.

Unfortunately we do not provide services where you can hire a developer for your site, Nicepage allows you to make everything on your own. Let me try to explain how it may work for you. As you are using Nicepage online builder to build the whole new site, maybe it will be easier for you to export it as a Joomla theme with a content and install it on a new site, import all the created content and then integrate the desired extensions and forms. You can also install the theme on your old site, but you should be careful with importing the content, disabling the old content that was created with another builder as they may be causing conflicts. Also it is recommended to always make a backup of your site before performing a major update. So, make a backup of your site, import the whole new theme and content from Nicapage and check how it works.

Here we have a lot of documentation about working with Nicepage and Joomla:

Hi Hella and thanks for responding.

I'd like to clarify what I think you are suggesting. If I have any of this wrong, please let me know.

  • So, you're suggesting I should create a new directory (a dev site,
essentially). In that directory I should install the recent version
of Joomla. Should I do Joomla 5 or Joomla 6? My current sites are all
Joomla 5. So I assume I should go with Joomla 5 - but let me know.

  • After installing core Joomla 5 files, I would add NicePage as a
    component.

  • After adding the NicePage component and extensions, I would import
the site I've created offline into my instance of NicePage?

  • Then, if that works, I would add anything I want in terms of other
needed components like Membership Pro and JomSocial? Hmmm... this
could be a problem. I have data history and configuration on the current
Joomla sites. I don't know how I would carry over the data
(especially JomSocial with all of our members and their messages,
profiles, etc). That sounds like it could be a nightmare. I can't
afford to lose that data or the data for our members with
    Membership Pro.

  • If I can figure out a way to integrate Membership Pro and JomSocial,
I'd then take my old backed up site down and replace it with the
    NicePage version of the site.

Is this your suggestion? And, if so, I need to know if you believe I can get Membership Pro and JomSocial to integrate with the new site without losing data and configuration. Again, this just seems like something that needs a developer that knows both Joomla and NicePage. But, given how new NicePage is, I don't know where to find a developer that knows it. Do you know of anyone you can suggest? I'd be happy to speak with someone, if you do. It doesn't have to be someone in your company. Thank you.

Hella,
Any response to my last question for clarification? I'm asking for clarification because the link you sent me for Joomla information is dating back to Joomla 3. I know you've updated since then. Also, it begins with installing your Joomla/Nicepage Extension when I have actually built the site online and outside of Joomla. So, it seems the link you shared doesn't deal with my current situation, Also, I want to add something to the question:

You say save the site as a theme and place it in a new version of Joomla. When I save the site as a theme, will the theme I upload to Joomla have all of the page content I have created (text, photos, titles, videos etc.) or will it include only the header/footer/theme colors/theme fonts?

I hope you'll respond to make things more clear. I don't want to make these pages twice. And, right now, it feels like that's where I'm headed with this.

Thanks,
Laurie
