Ask a Question

Hi. I have a page and I want it to have a specific url. I don't see how to do this. It is the only page on the project. I can NAME the page, but this is not the url. I can also try to deselect "home page" but I cannot do this, it will not let me... so perhaps that is the problem, it assumes I want it to be index.html ?
I cannot simply publish it and rename it because I have another page that is index.html and want to link to that index page from the page i am creating now on nicepage.
Please tell me how to set a custom url for the page (ugsinfo.html)
Thanks.

Hello Mark,

Thank you for reaching out to us

In Nicepage, when publishing a single-page website or managing multiple pages, the URLs are typically generated based on the page name.

Please let us know if you're publishing to WordPress/Joomla, HTML export, or online hosting.

Feel free to provide some screenshots.

Hi. I am exporting html to a folder and then using Filezilla to upload to my FTP site.
I have an index.html file made on other software. I just want this nicepage to have the url ugsinfo.html and of course on the title bar of the web page I want proper name like Universal Grind Setting Chart & Calculator.

Is it not possible to export html without nicepage trying to make an index page?
I don't seem to be able to remove the check mark for "Make Homepage".

I have attached a few images to show you. Nicepage forces the name index.html instead of the filename I want. This ugsinfo.html is just a page which lists contents of the site folder, not the web page I created.

Hi Mark,

I don't seem to be able to remove the check mark for "Make Homepage".

Unfortunately, you cannot export the website without the home page. Nicepage always generates the index.html file for the page marked as the home page. In other words, it generates two pages: page.html and index.html files for the same page.
As an alternative, you can create one more page and set it as the home page. The desired page will be generated with the filename you used for the Page Name in the editor. But if you use a different page created outside Nicepage, you may have problems with links because Nicepage uses the page name for menu links, for example (e.g. page.html instead of index.html).

You can set the desired page title under the Page Settings >> SEO >> Title.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

That's a pity, and a pain... one should be able to name the pages as you want and give the filename you want, so a page could be called "my son's 12th birthday" but the url could be 12bd.html
This is a very basic requirement and most websites do not have the same url file name as the page title.
Seems like it's designed for hosting on Nicepage, but neglecting "normal" use of publishing to a FTP site.

Hi,

You can name the page whatever you want. It depends on where you want to see this name. You can set any page title (the page <title> tag), menu item title, and add a heading to the page.
The following page name is used for the Nicepage UI and filename in the exported website only:

page-name.png

You can set the desired page title under the Page Settings >> SEO >> Title.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Yes but the point is you cannot have the file name be whatever you want. So I cannot create a website on nice page where the only page on that site is not index.html. that means I cannot name the HTML file what I want.

Hi Mark,

You can set the filename you want by specifying the page name in Nicepage.
The page used as the website home page will have two files: you_page_name.html and index.html. The index file is not generated for other website pages except for the home page.

You're not understanding me.
I don't want nice page to create index.html.
I want the site to be othername.html
And I want the page title to be "unique name for this page"

Mark,

You can set the desired page title ( "unique name for this page") under the Page Settings >> SEO >> Title.
Nicepage always generates the index.html file for the page used as the website home page (Site Settings >> General >> Home Page). This function cannot be disabled.
In addition to this, it generates the page othername.html. There are two files for the website home page: index.html and othername.html
Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks, that's good that I can create a SECOND page with any name/url, but I will have to remember to DELETE the first page becuase that will always be index.html and this would over-write my existing index.html page.... pity you HAVE to have index.html as the first page!!!

I hope the need for naming the filename of the FIRST page is added to give the user that freedom. Thanks.

Hi, Mark

Thank you for the update.

Creating a static index.html file is a common and standard practice, which is why we haven't added extra functionality specifically for modifying this behavior. However, we do appreciate your suggestion and will certainly consider it for potential inclusion in a future update.

If you have any additional questions, we'll be happy to help!
