Ask a Question

When i look to FTP a website I can not see the TITLE name i have given my website. See screenshot(s). All i can see is numbers, which seems counter intuitive since i am looking for the name of the sites as per the TITLE that i gave the site.
How do i make it so that i can see the name i have given the site?
Thanks

Hello Andrew,

Your Site Title is the name of the initial project name when you export as a project.
You can change your Site Title each time you export, the new name will appear when you save it as a project. You can leave the site title unchanged but change the name of the file for this export. Exported files are stored in Nicepage templates or another predefined by the user folder.

The screenshot is about the folder names given for your project stored by the app automatically in your desktop dashboard. Those files are stored by the app in the main Nicepage folder.
You do not need to rename the files, as this will lead to the app malfunction and not being able to "read" the project file.

Hi Anna,

With this current method of 'not' allowing Nicepage users to name their files with a relevant website name, i can only think of disadvantages. This fixed naming of files with random numbers, leads to much confusion and significant wasted time. This confusion starts as soon as any website build starts. As projects continue and time passes each return to a project becomes more confusing, as you end up staring at pages and pages of numbers with no names! This is very frustrating. I could be wrong but didn't the naming feature used to be an option in earlier versions?

In any case I would therefore like to request that Nicepage add the feature that allows users to name their file as they wish from day 1 of launch. That would be a very simple update and would make life so much easier, saving significant time and therefore money!

I hope you will agree this would make Nicepage faster to use and less confusing for all users.

KR
Andy

Hello Andrew,

You are free to name your exported files as you wish. The site name will be visible in your dashboard or after export, but will have another name in the main Nicepage folder.
The main folder with all currently stored projects from the app dashboard is usually used to manually delete the image file, or to copy the project folder. Yes, you are correct to highlight this app behavior. We will point this out again to our development team about the project name applied to the temporarily stored files.

Thank you.

Hi Anna, So whilst this ID feature is 'hopefully' being developed, is there some easy way how us web designers can work out which mock up/design/etc is attached to which folder?
At least if we knew that, we'd save some time and not have to delve around in folders to discover which job relates to which client, etc. Thanks

See attached?

Hello Andrew,

You should better export your projects in a usual way and name each file as you need. The folders saved by the app should remain unchanged.

I see, we still do not have an understanding between the developer of the application and the users of said application. I asked this very same question a few months ago and received the same exact answer: "We designers don't need to know what site belongs to what client as the application already knows."

Again, your answer is not helpful to me as a designer in any way, shape, or form. I understand that most of the people who started out using this app may not have been actual web designers but business owners who were only making their own site. But you now market this as a suitable piece of software to help actual designers with multiple clients and since 2020 we have been asking for this feature and your team has not given a real reason that this cannot be accomplished.

Hello,

Initially, the application was not designed for users to manipulate project folders directly.
The folder names are used internally by the app's editor to:
a) locate the projects
b) prevent conflicts when names coincide.

These names of the files cannot be changed manually at this time, and we do not plan to implement renaming in the near term. This would be a significant change to how projects are saved, shared, and exported.

We can consider the possible future implementation if there are a lot of users' requests.

Thanks for considering. If it difficult at this stage to give us an option to change files names then maybe there is an easy way around this. If this will help people developing multiple websites then you will sell more products.

We don't necessarily want to change file names. What we ideally need is someway (or some system), to label a file name so that we know things like.

  1. which website belongs to which client.
  2. Which is the latest (master), version of the website so we know what to work on.

Personally I need to know this WRT our desktop version.

I am not sure if i need this for the online version does not give me everything I need to want to use both systems.

This may change in the future as you improve the way the online version works for White Label Resellers.

So maybe the programmers can put their heads together and consider if there is an easy way around this. If you can work it out before your competitors it will strengthen your position and you won't suffer from migrating resellers.

Hope you can help.

Cheers
Andy

Hello Andrew,

The reason this hasn’t been added yet is not because it would require reworking our project data structure and synchronization logic so that custom labels, grouping, and metadata are stored consistently across devices and team members. This is a significant change since the desktop app was not designed in this way. The user can and should store the files using their own systematization of the files when exported.
The online builder does not store the users' sites that are accessible to them.

Hi Anna, Thanks for that reply. But I am not sure I fully understand.

Could you perhaps give further explanation and a visual example (screenshot), of an example file structure that gives me a better understanmding for.

  1. A desktop filing and
  2. An online system if this makes sense.

Thanks

Hello Andrew,

The desktop app autosaves the projects added in your application. The folder named Nicepage is synchronized with your application dashboard. When you delete the folder inside Nicepage > the corresponding project file will be deleted from the application. Which is why you should export your site as a project from desktop app each time you finish/close/export to HTML/CMS your site and name the file as you want.
Online builder has no local file storage.
