Top level menu items in desktop work as they should. They do not work in any mobile views (hamburger menus). My top level items are not separators and should not behave as such on mobile devices. Please let me know how to correct this problem. Thank you.

Hi,

This is behavior by default. The menu item with subitems is used to open subitems in the responsive menu only. Unfortunately, this behavior cannot be changed.

I have been designing websites for 2 decades now, and I have never seen another site that works this way. The way it is currently set up is also not ideal for SEO either, as the the URL structure should be: domain/top level nav item (such as locations, services, etc.), item. This does not happen in nicepage, and that's part of the problem with the hamburger menu. I would like to request that the developers fix what seems to be a pretty bad flaw to me. When it comes to being found and making money online, SEO is more than half the battle. Is there any kind of work around in the mean time that you can recommend?

Hi Randy,

The separator items as parent items are widespread in use. But we added your request to our wish list.
Please note that the link to the parent page itself is still there. We're using js to intercept the click action and use it to open subitems instead.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Thank you. I think I understand. So how do I use the complete link without the js intercept?

Hi Randy,

This will require rewriting Nicepage js so that you could open the parent item and display subitems. We do not provide such solutions, unfortunately.

We are thinking about building our new website with nicepage and buying the premium version, but this is stopping us so far.

If I understand this right, with mobile menu one can only either click the top (with single level) or buttom (with multi level)? Is there any solution for this?

Wouldn't this render any hamburger menu where you need top and bottom level menu items unworkable? I'd guess we are not the only ones who need a working menu in mobile view? Are there any workarounds for this?!

Hi,

Nicepage responsive menu uses click (tap) action to open subitems as there is no hover action on touch screens. This makes parent items with subitems not clickable and behaves as separator items. They are widely used for grouping in menus. As a result, you do not need to refresh the page and open a responsive menu panel to see subitems.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Thanks for the reply, but some sites require multilevel with clickable single level, so that is not an option.

What about using double tap (which is now used for closing) or even better long press as an option? That should solve the problem, no?

I have exactly the same problem. Is it possible to use a third party menu plugin to avoid this?

Hi,

You can use any third-party plugin to create a menu. Please use Position control to create a position/widget area for this menu. But that in this case, you will not be able to edit the menu, menu items or menu style in Nicepage.

Hi,

I also need multilevel with clickable top level item.

Could this be changed that when you click the text you open top item and if you click the arrow the submenu opens?
Or at least have the possibility to have all items open in default so you could click any of them?

Best regards,
Janne

Hi,

I think this nicepage site I made does what you're talking about. Right? If so, it's somewhere in the settings. I believe the settings I used to do it were listed under submenu > menu type > multilevel, and check submenu arrow. Click on the menu in the nicepage editor to get to the settings. https://www.asteroidcleaningsolutions.com

Hi Hella,

this problem should be addressed with PRIORITY as it is clearly a BUG since the beginning.
Being a user of your software since day one, I am not used to such ignorance from NICEPAGE side and the problem should long be solved!
You guys are so flexible and quick in adding new stuff , but when it comes to solve long knowing and old bugs you are stubborn as a buffalo.
So please do something... as the community using mobile gadgets to browse online content is growing and growing and if this will not get solved ASAP, NICEPAGE can close down.

Thanks for your immediate attention and I hope for a quick solution of this BUG .. meanwhile I will not recommending your software anymore and communicate this major problem in all social media possible.

Your frustrated and PAYING customer!

Hi,

That is actually not a bug. The topic on how to handle the hover state for the menus on the touch devices is quite complicated and there are several possible solutions and none of them is ideal and has some issues in the different browsers. So the possibility to improve the mobile menu functionality is considered by our developers.

Hi,

I totally agree with franco! It is truely unbelievable that your attitude toward solving problems is like this: "So the possibility to improve the mobile menu functionality is considered by our developers." Considered?????

The first post in this thread was a year ago and still the same problem excists.

I am a new user of Nicepage and at first I thought I am doing something wrong since the mobile menus dont work the way one would expect them to work. But then I found this thread and now I am really dissapointed! Mobile is the thing of today and I cant design websites which wont work right.

I am starting to regret that I paid for this. Seems to have been a waste of money.

Hi,

You have seen that the application works in this way and that is the common solution for the mobile menus that is used by a large number of modern sites. In any case we have considered the option to research the other solutions for the mobile menus.

I haven't paid much attention to how hamburger menus work on other websites but I came across this and it seems to be a simple and elegant solution. The website is the US government website, quantum.gov.

The first screenshot shows the collapsed menu. Clicking/tapping on the down arrow next to a menu item expands that menu item's submenu, but clicking on the actual menu title opens the page attached to the menu item.

I think this gets around the problem of what to do when a menu text is tapped. Nicepage already provides a down arrow for horizontal menus (although some control over its styling and size would be good) so could that be added to the hamburger menu to control the display of submenus and leave the text of the menu item to open its own page?
