Collapse the background to an image and you will be able to find in the Property Panel the text box where you can enter the SEO ALT.

While they did give you a work around...
the ultimate solution is to be able to set the alt-tag on the image in the image-library.
Sure, you can override the default on a per-page, per insert image.
But the ability to have an SEO friendly tag associated with the image, would make maintenance a lot easier.
