Ask a Question

Hi,
I am building a Nicepage theme for Joomla 4 from scratch.
I have used Themler for several years and I am now digging into Nicepage.

I wonder where the "home template" from Themler went in Nicepage. Hopefully I am missing something because the process of doing changes to the home template is very annoying. As I see it there is no real difference between a front page and a content page in Nicepage. Both is supposed to use the Post template, therefore i have to make a custom post template for the front page.

This means, that I need do the following:

  1. First I make a custom template in Nicepage based on the Post Template. I name it Home Template.
  2. So now I do changes in the custom Home template in Nicepage, save and export the theme for Joomla 4
  3. I import the theme in joomla 4
  4. I then duplicate the site template in Joomla - naming it with a name and a number so I am sure to use the newest version.
  5. I open the duplicate site template in Styles in Joomla - selecting the Home template instead of the default (Post template) from Nice Page theme
  6. I edit the Front page menu item in Joomla - and select the duplicate site template and save.

I have to go through step 2-6 every time there is a tiny change to the homepage template.
And I have bulk of outdated copies of the joomla theme because of this process.

Am I missing something here?

Best regards
Lars

Hi, Lars,

I am not sure how to force this homepage to use the header and footer from the default theme of the site.

By default, Nicepage pages in Joomla use the Header and Footer (and other theme settings) from the Nicepage extension. You should open the Joomla page settings and switch the page template to Theme Header and Footer or Theme Template. In this case, a Nicepage page will use the Header and Footer from the default theme.

I am not sure how Nicepage pages and theme correspond on a joomla website.

Nicepage pages can use theme settings either from the Nicepage extension or the current template. It depends on the template you set for a page. Native Joomla articles always use the settings of the default template.

Let us know if you have any further questions!

Hi Paul,
I would like to use a Nicepage page for the homepage only.
I am not sure how to force this homepage to use the header and footer from the default theme of the site. It seems to use its own header and footer on this particular page.

I am not sure how Nicepage pages and theme correspond on a joomla website.

Can you point to some documentation on this?

Thanks

Lars

Hi, Lars,

You can add Joomla Positions anywhere: built-in templates (Blog Template, Post Template, etc.) and pages. If you add a position to a template, Header, and Footer, it is part of your template, and you can simply install it on your Joomla website without content. However, if you add a position to Nicepage pages in the Desktop or Online app, you should install content as well.

Please note that you can also add positions directly in the Nicepage extension for Joomla.

Let us know if you have any further questions!

Hi again,
it seems to be possible to have Joomla positions in the Nicepage home page.

But when I use the Nicepage home page, then I should export content as well, right?

Will the theme know that content should come from joomla positions and not from the Nicepage blocks on the home page?

/Lars

Hi Paul,
Thank you. Interesting.
How would I proceed if I used Nicepage for the home template? I would certainly like to have joomla positions within the home page template but I do not have joomla article content on the home page so it will not be necessary to base it on a Joomla article.

Regards,
Lars

Hi, Lars,

Unfortunately, Nicepage does not have the Home Template. If your homepage is a native Joomla article, it uses the Post Template from your default template. Alternatively, you can create the homepage with the Nicepage extension for Joomla. Clarify please, what homepage do you want to have?
