Saving is still automatic. When will you please stop this?

Hi folks,
Seriously it is exceedingly annoying that Nice Page auto saves during the development process and especially on
shutdown of Nicepage.
Normal development offers small changes to any project whether it be a web page or software. Having autosave
without the developer choice of enabling or disabling is simply bad news.
Many changes I make during a development cycle are not required but simply done to see the change and assess its
viability. However Nicepage autosave does not allow me to do these. Even closing Nicepage still saves the changes.
Please please please allow us to disable this autosave it wastes so much of my time it is crazy. Even showing clients
the page is frustrating when they say "no I prefer it before the last change, please revert.".

Hi,

A lot of customers use autosave. It helps to be sure that you will not lose the changes if something happens (like a hard-drive crash, for example). Some of the projects cannot be saved in the ram because of the large files. Therefore saving is a required step. The undo-redo options are available after saving too.

Hi folks,
Great that Autosave can now be disabled but I am still wondering why we have to save
before we can produce the project?
My method of developing is make small changes then build, test accept or undo. This allows
me to make numerous changes without having issues with saved files that have changes I do not
wish to keep.
Can Nicepage actually create the project from what is in memory or does it have to have a saved
set of files?

TIA :)

Hi,

Nicepage was auto saving after each and every little change I'm making
which caused a lag in the program itself.

When you disable the autosave option, then if you click the Save button, the save process is in progress, the button becomes inactive until the page is saved, and this takes some time.
If autosave is enabled, then the save itself occurs automatically, but with an interval, that should correspond to the time when you click the Save button (approximately) when the autosave option is disabled.

If you have problems with the autosave option, please create a separate topic, provide temporary access to the site backend and specify after what exactly actions we can see the problem.

Thank goodness this feature is implemented!

I finally figured out why the software was lagging... auto save was on!

Thank you

Hi Tony,

Yes, this is how this option works. Export is not possible without saving changes in the desktop version.

We have added your request about the possibility of export without changes in our wishlist, but we cannot say whether this feature will be implemented or not and when.

Thanks for being with us.

The next part of the question if you would be so kind.

  1. I have turned off autosaving.
  2. If I make changes then export the site to test I still
have to save before it will export the site.

Why if I have turned off autosaving?

I see you now have an option to turn off auto save in the latest update! THanks. For these who are interested in turning it off go to your account settings there is a drop down box to disable auto save.
Thanks again Nicepage.

Hi jpalmer2.
Thank you for the comments but I am sure it is a simple 1/2hour fix, if only they would
think clearly. The amount of stress this one bad choice makes is crazy. I actually like their
platform and think it could be best of breed. However the lack of flexibility shown to their
users is bad news.
I have been writing cross platform software for 15 years for linux, windows, apple, android and os/2.
You cannot seriously tell me the issue is a file based issue, it is simply a logic flow. Nothing else
need change.
Or simply disable to autosave timer. Real easy fix. That means we can use the Save Icon only when
we want to save or not.

Hey guys turn off the autosave timer...

Tony,
I agree I would love for them to get rid of autosave. As a programer myself, since the early 80s I believe I figured out what the problem is. When they open a project, instead of writing to a temporary file or directory, they are most likely writing directly to the project file. This was a poor decision to make in the beginning of development but in order to change it they would have to restructure the whole file system. Perhaps this decision was made because they are developing for multiple operating systems and the cloud. I'm not defending them believe me I want them to get rid of auto save in the worst way.

Hi Andy,
Disabling autosave is not the same as version control. Disabling autosave will allow you to make changes and save as you go at your choice not Nicepage. This means you can save or not then close and reopen the project at the last point you saved.
I have never before had any software that automatically saved whether I wanted it to or not.

FYI I currently zip my folder using 7zip before I open it. Then play with Nicepage. If I don't like the changes I unzip
the last zip file to let me start again. It is a pain in the butt but it works for me.

Hi!
You said: "Even showing clients the page is frustrating when they say "no I prefer it before the last change, please revert."

Could your suggestion to stop autosave would give us the possibility to revert back on the versions?

Unfortunately for Nicepage I can tell you I have been writing software for computers since 1987.
So I can tell you that you are simply not doing it right if the suggestion I gave you cannot be implemented.
If you can add a dialog to the code that asks whether the save should continue or not then
the code I suggested if only a little more difficult.
Heck, give me the code and I will do it for you for free.
