Selecting Text. Not consistent with Mac and I assume PC keyboard behavior.

Ask a Question

I'm not sure if this is a bug, and oversight, or using a PC standard that I am unfamiliar with, but let's see if I can explain this. In a text block I can do a number of things. I can click once to place the cursor, I can click twice to select the whole word, and I can click three times to select more, but I don't recall how much. Perhaps select all? ALSO, and this is where I am having most difficulty. I single click to place my cursor at the beginning of a sentence, and then hold down the shift key and click on end of phrase I want to edit. I don't seem to be able to do this. Is there another modifier key I am unaware of? On the mac it is the shift key. This is how I select phrases and/or larger sections without having to drag. The click, shift, click is much more accurate. Is that some that can be done?

Hi Lawson,

In Nicepage you can place the cursor, then hold Shift key and use the arrows on the keyboard to move the selection. Please let me know if that works for you. I have done that on PC.

Often I double click a word to select that word, then go to the end of the phrase I want to alter and just single click while holding down the shift key. That selects the first word through whatever end point I set.

The cursor approach you mention may work, but if I want to take 8 words and bold them, or italicize them, I have to use the cursor a single character at a time. I'm just trying to emulate the methods I have used for years in Adobe Mac programs... and most any program as I think about it.

That does work, and I can jump a line down at a time, which is helpful. I tried another simple action where I click the cursor in a spot, and then hold down the shift and click further along, and that does not work. In the meantime, your suggestion is helpful. Thanks.

Hi Lawson,

Thanks for your explanation. We may consider that for the future, I hope that you can use the keyboard arrows meanwhile.

It does help. Thanks.

I was noticing that I can double click a word to select it, and then double click the last word and I select everything. I think traditionally the following is true.
1 click, place the cursor.
double click, select the word
triple click, select all.

I'll update if I think of something different, but I know I find myself struggling with selecting text intuitively. I'll see if I can't nail things down more specifically. Thanks for your help.
