How can I import a NP-site with only the folder Site-###### without a backup file?

Ask a Question

I got several problems after the latest update end of august. Lost settings and paths. Each formely site built in Nicepage is now a surprise if it works well.
My issue: I have updated a website in june but only a backup of the version made in april.

I found the Site-#####file but when trying to import it, I get a prompt telling me it's not a correct NicePage project (screenshot)

I've set the path to the folder I want to open but the error stays the same.

Can I import a complete site with those files and what is the correct way to do it? I can't figure out what the structure of NP is to (re)store files or backups.
Please, need your help soon.

The Site_##### are the working files and can't be imported.
They are supposed to be in the Documents\Nicepage folder, and the preferences are supposed to point to that folder.
Only Project files that were exported can be imported.
If you didn't intentionally backup your sites, there still might be files in the Documents\Nicepage\backups folder.

Thanks Merlin for your quick response.

So the files 'Site_##### ' and the exported HTML files can't be imported. That's a pity... Only backup files if I understand you well, and projectfiles.

The backup file I have is an earlier version of the site, the latest wasn't back-upped. I do that most of the time when, after an update of NP, it is asked if I want to make a backup.

How are projectfiles named or archived?
And are projectfiles those files which I can also save when exporting the HTML files to the server? Then they are stored on the webserver I pressume?

The Site_######## files are NOT the exported html files.
They are the app working files that are used by the app building the site.

When you export html files to your computer, there's a check box that asks if the Project file should be included, that can be uploaded to your host.
It is not included by default, but should be.
I recommend you always do that to create a backup that can be re-imported in case there's a problem.
Only those Project files can be imported, nothing else.
If you have any backups, they will be in the Documents\Nicepage\backups folder.
The format is Project.zip.

OK, Merlin, your explanation is christal clear, thanks!

I'm aware of the fact that Site_### files are not the HTML files. In fact there are four kind of files:
the working files (Site_####), the HTML files for export, backup files (restore) and projectfiles for import.

I'll will follow your advice to save projectfiles by default and always backup the latest version.

Because NP always worked fine without real issues I was so naive to think that nothing serious could get wrong <:-(
Thanks again and have a nice day!

Kind regards, Andries
