Ask a Question

Hi,
I have a couple of sites made with NP that all are Joomla 3.xx.
All sites are originally made in the desktop version and then moved to the joomla site.
As all sites are uppdated on the on-line joomla sites they are very much different from the original desktop templates.
Is it possible to migrate these sites to Joomla 4?
I mean by simply using the NP on-line component on the joomla site?
I understand that I must update the joomla platform frpn 3.XX to 4.XX.
But after that is done how can the template be migrated from 3.XX to 4.XX in NP?

Hello Micke,

To migrate from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4 you need to use Joomla upgrade tools, it should transfer all your site with content. In any case, please make a backup of your site before upgrading.
After that please use the desktop application to export the updated theme and plug-in choosing Joomla 4 version in the export dialog and install them on your site.

You will continue to edit your articles with Joomla4 online, but you will need a desktop application to update the theme for Joomla4 and the correct plugin version.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello again,
So if I want to migrate my j3.xx to j4.xx I use the Joomla upgrade tools to hve the joomla platform updated.
So far I understand, but then the problems comes..

The on-line version of the Nice Page content is a lot different from the desktop version as I have done just the basic graphic stying on the desktop version. All pages/articles are then made on the on-line joomla site, so my concern is that if I migrate then all will be wrong.
But you say that if I use the desktop version to migrate from j3.xx to j4.xx then that should do the trick if I then iupload it to the on-line version?

Hello Micke,

In general, this procedure looks like this:
-backup your site in Joomla 3
-disable Nicepage
-press upgrade Joomla to version 4 n your admin
-after the update upload the new theme and plugin file previously exported from the desktop application for Joomla4
- check your site
Please note that you will have to recreate or build a new theme file for Joomla4 with Nicepage in the desktop application anyway.
You can recreate the theme by exporting the header/footer as blocks from the plugin editor for further importing into the desktop project before the upgrade.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello,
Ok so all content will remain and get the updated new theme that I make in the deskto pversion?
If I have the old theme and update it to J4 will that not be compatible?
I mean why do I need to make a new built theme from scratch on the desktop version?

Hello Micke,

Theme file can be updated only with a desktop application.
https://nicepage.com/doc/72666/export-and-update-joomla-template-from-app

Sure you can simply export your theme for Joomla4 if you have your current theme file saved as a project.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
