Ask a Question

I have uploaded and installed a module in Joomla. I am trying to figure out what position to use for the module but there are none available in my template.

How do I create a position in my template to assign my module to?

I created the position as shown in the nicepage video, my problem is that when I go to assign the module to a position, the position I created does not show in my dropdown selector for the template

Hi John,

Could you please check whether you have created Position on the Template or on the Page and attach some screenshots that show the issue?
Also, please, export your website as a Project and attach it to this topic so we could check the settings.

I created it on the page which is then exported to the template.
I am getting confused with all the terminologies.

Please, maybe it would be easier if you tell me where I create the Position.

Hi John,

I see the problem. You have added the position in the Page. Page is the content area and the content area can only load the existing positions. That is how Joomla works. Maybe you will need to look into the video once again. When we are adding the positions in the page (content), we name them the same as any position that already exists in the Blog or Post template (or in the Footer or Header). I mean in some part of the theme that can use module positions.
In your case you need to add the position with the exact same name into the Blog or Post template. Then you will be able to add a module into that position. And the position will be also loaded in the page content.

Thanks Hella, but I am now confused as the first part of the video describes how to add into a "page"

I am thinking if I can get my head around this option I can solve many issues, but the content of the video and your comments seem to conflict.

Hi John,

The Position control can be added on the Page (between Header and Footer), in Header, Footer and on Post and Blog Templates. But the page is a content. Everything between Header and Footer on the page will be converted to the Joomla article. You cannot create a module position from the joomla article content. It is not possible in Joomlal. But you can display existing joomla module from an existing theme position inside an article. In Joomla there is a builtin shortcode {loadposition} which can be used for this. In Nicepage editor you can add Position control inside content and specify the name of the existing position where the module which you want to display is located.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

I'm struggling also with how to create a template rather than actual content with nicepage, like earlier with Artisteer.
I would like to design a template and place joomla positions, in which I in joomla then can assign various module/elements like menus etc.

Hi Steffen,

Have you watched the video?
https://nicepage.com/doc/article/6700/

You can insert the Position control into the Header, Footer and on the Blog and Post templates into the template area. To add a menu you need to place the Menu control into the Header and that will create hmenu position for the menu. And the Sidebar ads the position for sidebar modules.
