Ask a Question

When I run an SEO checker, I get the following warning
"The character encoding is not specified in the HTTP header"
Can you explain this and is there a way to fix it?

Thanks

which seo checker are you using? Your meta tag is set but it's different from mine. It might be missing a property value.

Mine:

<meta http-equiv=content-type content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/>

Yours:

<meta charset="utf-8">

it's missing that property value http-equiv and content. Mine is flagged as correctly set. But that site is messed up lo. It's saying (among other things) my language "nl" isn't an ISO defined standard one. Yeah right. Anyway try modifying your charset meta tag to look like mine.

If you are talking about the site settings, I have the same meta tag you mentioned above.
I'm beginning to wonder if this is a bug in the SEO checker.

not according to your page source. Top is mine, bottom is yours. Spot the difference. You need that http-equiv and content tag

i don't know. You didn't say how you built the site (static html pages, cms, ...) but in joomla i don't have to do anything. It's automatically set like that.
