Ask a Question

Hello, I have a question about my domain transfer. I transferred my domain name mikebcreative.com to point to nicepage. The name is registered under squarespace.com and expires 15 days from now.
My question is, Should I let it expire on squarespace and pay for the hosting here? (does my current nicepage plan cover the .com?)
Just trying to get a clear understanding on how to handle this.

Thanks

I do NOT work for Nicepage, I'm just a user, but thought I would try and help.

NicePage is not a domain registrar, they offer software, and hosting. So if you have purchased the Online Builder and Hosting package, you need to do a DNS (Domain Name Server) change to point your domain to the NicePage server which they would have provided to you when you signed up for hosting.

You do not transfer a domain and if you want to keep a domain name, never let it expire.

EXAMPLE:
I buy all my domains through GoDaddy (I never use GoDaddy for hosting) just to manage all my domains.
I then buy hosting with a hosting provider, I have numerous providers and servers.
I log into my GoDaddy account and point my domain to the web hosting server via DNS.

So I suggest you create an account with a domain registrar (you can pick any) and do a "domain transfer" to the registrar and then you can point it to your Nicepage hosting.

Hello, thanks for the tips on the domains and web hosting. I'll look around to see if I find better web hosting than square space. If I don't I'll just keep the hosting under square space and have it continue to point to my nicepage site.

Thanks again

I wasn't aware that Squarespace would allow you to renew the domain without their hosting.
Check their prices.
If other domain registrars are cheaper, and you don't need their hosting, I'd transfer it if you aren't planning on their hosting any longer.

Hi Michael,

The above messages are correct. You are using our hosting option, but if you want to use a custom domain name, you need to purchase it from the third-paty. If you want o continue to use the current domain name you have, you need to extend it further.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hello support team, thanks for the feedback. Are you saying I can host it here no problem, and I just need to buy the mikebcreative.com domain name from a third party. (so in other words, I don't have to pay square space the 80.00 annual renewal fee?)
Well if I let it expire out on square space would that delay or stop nicepage from hosting while it cancels out on squarespace?

Thanks

That's expensive for a renewal.
I'd try to transfer it to another domain registrar before it expires, IF they will let you do that.
Check prices.
If you are using Nicepage's online website and hosting, it doesn't matter which domain registrar you use.
