Ask a Question

Hi there
After using artisteer for different project I am really looking forward to use your new product :-)

As Joomla 4 is already in beta phase and I would like to build a website which should properly work with Joomla 4: Would recommend to wait until a stable release exists? Or would you recommend to build now with Joomla 3.9 which then can be migrated without any (nicepage-) issues?

Thanks guys and looking forward to buy your product

Joe

Q1. You must start to build in Nicepage desktop app - this is only one way to create theme with Header (logo, menu etc.) and Footer. After this you can Export theme with content from Nicepage and Import it to Joomla (with installed in Joomla Nicepage plugin). Then you can edit content inside Joomla with Nicepage plugin, but you can't edit theme inside Joomla... theme editing possible only inside Nicepage app. So if you need to change something in theme - you must do it in app, then export again and import again. And do it each time. Like in Artisteer.

Q2. Now Joomla 4 is only in Alpha (Alpha 5 is available). It's very early stage. So you can wait it for a long time. Joomla 3.9 is good to start, then will be Joomla 3.10 with compability layer for updating to Joomla 4. At this moment Joomla project can't give a date for a final release but will do that once he reach beta. From other side Nicepage still in Beta and there is no date for stable release. There is bugs, but this bugs solves quickly, thanks to developers team.

Hey thanks Vitaly for your fast feedback.

Q1 - got that. This remembers me the way Artisteer worked. But that's absolutely fine!

Q2 - so let me ask it the other way: From a template perspective I can build a page with nicepage on Joomla 3.9 now and there will / should be not issue changing to Joomla 4? The other template vendors all are writing about a "bigger migration"... I don't want to start a Joomla 3.9 website and then rebuild it for Joomla 4 :-)

Thanks mate

If we talk about fresh Joomla withoue external extentions (components, modules, plugins) then I don't think that there will be problems with update from Joomla 3.9/3.10 to 4.0. But many things depended from what extensions you are using. If you will use extention that not ready for Joomla 4 - it will not work untill developer of this extention not update them. Nicepage is extention too (plugin), hope that developers will update it for Joomla 4 in time.

And here is a tip: https://extensions.joomla.org/browse/top-rated/ - this Joomla! Extensions Directory (top rated page) and there you can see 4 ALPHA badge that mean that this extention is compatible with current Joomla 4 Alpha version.

This is my opinion... I can't sure for 100% that update (migration) from Joomla 3 to Joomla 4 will be easy as I expect, but it must be and I hope that it will be easy )

Hi to all,

Actually all said above is right. Joomla 4 is alpha and it may take a very long time before the official release. We can say that with the official release of Joomla 4 we will support it for sure. So if you are working with Joomla 3.9 now with the Nicepage theme and plug-in, probably migrating to Joomla 4 you will need to update the Nicepage plug-in and also re-export the theme from the updated desktop application. That is my assumption but it should be like that, you won't need to redo the theme.
