Image Questions

Ask a Question
  1. I have seen several mentions here of adding the capability to resize/rescale (reduce file size) images, either automatically or manually within NP. This is very handy in programs that have it, such as Mobirise. Is this feature in the works, and if so when might it be available?
  2. Is there a tutorial or explanation somewhere covering image file handling in NP? For example, how is the "images/originals" folder used? If I put an image there it gets moved by NP to "images". Is that the purpose of the folder?
    Thanks
    Charlie

Hi,

  1. Nicepage resizes large photos automatically.
  2. This folder is used when you upload images to the Nicepage app. Exactly what result you're trying to achieve?

First, I am new to NP and learning every day. The program is definitely great, but there is much to learn.

  1. Resizing - I just "uploaded" a 5MB image to NP and used that image in a page which I saved and FTP'd to my web server. The file size of the image was not changed. What am I missing to get images resized automatically? The objective is to reduce image file sizes without having to do that on each image before uploading to NP.

  2. Since images manually copied to the "images/originals" folder are then used by NP, is there any reason not to use that process to get multiple images into NP, rather than "uploading" one at a time?

Thanks.
Charlie

Hi Charlie,

Nicepage optimizes images if the file size is more than 256 kB AND the size (at least one axis) is more than 1600 px. Please let us know the resolution of the image you're using or attach it to this topic.

In general, you can copy the images to the project images folder. Nicepage will see them, and you will be able to use them. But please note that Nicepage exports used images only.

and i tell you why, because while building a page you collect images from different folders, drives, internet links, network paths. especially while playing arroung, testing, being creative. so they all get packet up in your project. then you export the page and the images get all scaled down and compressed very poorly! you say "just copy the original files into the images folder". yes, but we have to search and collect them again. this leads to an absolute crazy workflow with having image duplicates and much additional work. why dont you add some options to the export dialog? and if so, please add a checkbox "leave images as they are".

at the moment, it is not possible to build high end pages without overwriting the images in post.

also your export process kills scpaces between letters in names. i understand thats for webuse and you have to. but maybe mak e a warning popup or options. because with that, replacing images in post is even harder.

and finally, there is no way to export page without overwriting the carefully hand-replaced images. so after every export, we have to replace the images again. every little change you want to make after exporting the final page leads to that replaciung process again. please, your software is great and very powerful. why do you add such a bottleneck at the end?

Hello der.nikerl,

Thank you for the feedback, we really appreciate it.
To increase page speed loading of your site you need optimized images anyway. Nicepage software does it for you as a user.
We'll consider adding the option to choose or a warning popup.

Thank you.
