besides the German version of my site, I wanted to create an English version as well. I see two ways to achieve this:
1) copy all pages within the given site, translate the copies into English, and establish links between the start pages,
2) copy the site, translate it, and then link the start pages.
Which alternative seems more appropriate?

Hi,

You can use both. But I think the second one is better. You will be able to locate the second language website in a separate folder. But I suggest that you consider the use of CMS like WordPress or Joomla.

I went option 1 on the Joomla CMS platform with one my sites. Create duplicate pages, then use the joomla multilanguage functionality to link them to the proper languages and associate language swaps.

Hallo Bernd,

wie hast Du das mit den unterschiedlichen Links im Header, speziell beim Logo gemacht?
Wenn ich auf meiner Seite auf Englisch schalte, dann auf das Logo klicke, dann lande ich auf der deutschen Seite. Das ist unschön. Vielleicht hast Du einen Tipp.

Ich habe die gesamte Webseite dupliziert und dann übersetzt und die Links neu gesetzt. Wenn man das Logo auf einer beliebigen Seite mit der Maus auswählt, kann man dem Link auf die gewünschte Seite setzten. bei mit ist das in der deutschen Fassung Startseite.html und in der englischen Home.htlm.
