Blog template is used for all the menu items that are using blog layout. I mean the Featured Articles, Archived Articles, Category Blog menu types. Those pages will automatically use the Blog template from your theme.
The Post template is used to display a single article.

I am still puzzled about Blog and Post.
Do I need to upload a blog template and/or post template?
If I do how does that affect the main site template as only one can be the default?

Hi John,
Those templates are uploaded automatically with your exported template as they are the part of the theme. When you activate the Nicepage theme on the site, all the menu items of the Featured Articles, Archived Articles, Category Blog menu types will be using the Blog template from your theme. All the other pages will be using the Post template from your theme.
