Click the image on the left for the website on question, then "website settings" up top, general tab > favicon. All done. A favicon has nothing to do with the template header or footer. It's the icon used for bookmarks. Used to show up in the browser addressbar but that hasn't been possible by default anymore for a long time
Thanks for replying.
I am not sure what you mean by clicking on the image to the left of the website in question. My website is built in Joomla, not the Desktop app.
I have looked in Site Settings but don't see any place for a Favicon.
Well how did you design the template initially. Desktop app? The joomla plugin doesn't have that option. The desktop app does.
Then you'll have to use an extension to do it for you

Thanks. Took a while to find one that didn't need to be associated with a template but eventually did.
Hi Ross,
Favicon is a theme element and you can add it in the desktop application and export as a Theme.

That is all very well if one is developing using the Desktop App but I'm not. I discovered a while ago that it is better to build the entire site in Joomla.
If one builds via the App and then imports, each time one imports additional menu items etc. are created. One cannot just import a page that gets added or changed.
Hi Ross,
So if you use the Nicepage plug-in only, then you do not have Nicepage theme. The favicon is a theme element and you need to set it in the theme that you are using on your site. Nicepage plug-in for Joomla creates the content on the site and does not create a theme.

Hi, what extension did you use?
OptiGRAF, have you tried dropping the favicon into the Template folder that you have set as your default template? In the root of your website go to >Templates and then the template you are using, open that folder and copy your favicon there.
This works great:
