Ok, got a Pro plan with priority support and no follow-up reactions to my previous query... Is this ignorace, negligence or just failing to notice?
My project is to go live tomorrow...

Looks like there is an issue with Joomla server settings (as you said that sending a test email works OK).
Our developers will try to investigate what's wrong on your server and answer, but we can't promise that it will be till tomorrow when you have a project deadline.

But now there is covid-19 pandemic and some answers could be delayed.

You may also try to switch Joomla Form to 'Send Email with PHP Script' and try to submit form again.
In this case it will be sent with another solution.
