Change setting of the pop up photo window

I love that I can click on an image/photo and that it pops up and fills the webpage but is there any way to set a maximum size for an image, say to 500px high, instead of it being responsive to the size of the browser window? .....Is it possible to change the colour of the background in the popup viewer from black to any other colour?

Could you put this on a wishlist please. It would be nice to use low resolution pictures that do not fill the screen in a popup.
