Ask a Question

Hi. When I publish to html. it will create duplicate page for index.html and titleIgave.html
can I delete titleIgave.html without having trouble later? if so why nicepage don't do that when export to html???
if not, why not? :)

ps. what files can I delete without get in trouble in the website. (I hate SEO tools telling me I've duplicate pages). It's not my fault SEO.

Hello,

The index.html file is a copy of the page specified as a home page under the Site Settings. It is required for some servers. In general, this page can be removed manually after the exporting is no links refer to exactly this page. Or you can use the canonical link for SEO to set the main page.

I did use the canonical link for SEO to set the main page index.html.
the warnings in ALL SEO programs still tell me that I've duplicate content.
I was trying to remove the original page. not the index.html since that is the page that the server is going to get by default.
so if I remove index.html and put on canonical link: https://mywebpage.com/nameOfMyWebpage.html
will work? how server knows this is the main page??? I doubt this works.

I tried do delete index.html...put canonical in mynamed.html ofc it didn't worked. server gone 404.
I can correct that going htaccess route to tell whose the main page.
I was hoping that nicepage could go the other way around, removing mynamed.html and let stay the index.html as it should.
Still don't know what you mean in you post.

Hi João,

The point of the canonical link is to indicate the most representative page from duplicate pages. This Google documentation should be helpful:
https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/canonicalization
https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/consolidate-duplicate-urls
When you have two pages with the same content but different URLs you need to choose one which will be indexed by search engines and specify a full absolute URL to this page.

I know what a canonical link is and why it is used. That doesn't resolve the problem. Your help in this regard was zero.
SEO software will report it as a duplicate, and Google will also do that. I tried multiple solutions to see if I knew less than you (guess not).
I resolved the problem by editing the .htaccess file, redirecting to uselessotherpage.html, and deleting index.html (as you suggested).
It's not the answer, but Google doesn't cry anymore. The answer would be only 1 page, not duplicate pages. (asking too much, I know)...writing good code is not for everyone. I know. I'm a software engineer. My expertise is not web development; that's why I attempt to simplify my life by using software to do it for me. I suppose I will purchase a course and do it myself. I'm tired of subpar software. Apologies for my frustration, but I've been using your software for 3 years (2 with this account and 1 with another), and the progress of NicePage is not what I anticipated.

Hi João,

Unfortunately, there is no option to remove the index page from the website generation or not to generate it. However, the standard methods for pages with duplicated content and different URLs should work with Nicepage pages as well as with any other HTML pages. There is nothing specific in Nicepage pages. And there is nothing specific in canonical links for the Nicepage page. The canonical link is a standard too. Nicepage adds it to the source of both the page and index. Usually, it helps. But Google is a third-party service. We cannot say why it cries when the canonical link is added. From the Nicepage side, we can only be sure that the link is added to the page and attribute uses the same URL you inserted under the Page settings.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
