Ask a Question

I started my website project with Spanish as the default language. If I remember well, it was the default setting because I am located in Panama. This means that I need to begin creating any multilingual page in Spanish and then use the created format to fill in text in the other languages, otherwise, I experience problems with incoherencies. In some cases, I want all versions only with English text. In this case, I have to create the "Spanish" page in English, so that all other language versions have the same format and text.

The English versions have shown to be much more important than the Spanish version. Is there a way to define the default language as English, so that I can begin creating a new page with the English page and all other language versions are filled automatically with the English text? Or do I have to start always with the Spanish version and fill it with English text if I want all in English?

Hello Volker,

Thanks for using Nicepage!

You can imagine a notebook, where on the left side, on the left page, you write text in English, and on the right side, you need to write in Spanish. If you don't write the Spanish translation of the same sentence on the right side, nothing will appear.

The client chooses which one to read, but you are required to write one sentence in English, switch to Spanish, and write a translation of that English sentence.

Please feel free to ask anytime.

Sincerely,
George.

George, this is not what happens in reality, and you did not answer my question.

Spanish is the default language, and when I start creating a new page with the language set to Spanish (this is the default when I create a new page), then all other language versions automatically have the Spanish text which I then need to overwrite. If I start editing the English language version, this does not happen.
Actually, I have recently created a new page and filled the Spanish version with English text, and all other versions are now also in English with the same text.

What I really asked is if there is a way to tell Nicepage that the default language should not be Spanish but English, so I can start creating automatically the English version and either have the English text for all versions or can modify the other languages by translating them.
It may not be possible with the current website because the entire file structure would have to be changed. The default language files are in the root folder, and the other languages are in subfolders.
But what if start a new website? Can I change this setting there?

Hello Volker,

When you use the multilanguage option and added a language switcher, you can translate pages inside the editor, Nicepage will create alternative copies for one page with the text you have added, Nicepage itself is not translating the content of the text.
For example, your default language is English, blank project, blank page, you switch the language to Spanish, add text element in Spanish or English or any other language, switch to the other language and this same text will be with other languages, the one you have added first with a text element.
You can change the default site language in Site Settings > SEO.
To change the default predefined text samples - you need to change the language of the application:

Let us know.
