Ask a Question

Hi
I have added a Blog control in my website and few blog pages too but I was not able to figure out if it is possible to customise the meta data of each post as well as the title in HEAD section. Can it be done? If so how? If not where is the meta content taken from?

Furthermore I tried to use the Page Settings of the Blog Template but neither "Meta Tags" nor "Additional Head HTML" seems to make any difference. In fact after closing and re-opening Nicepage, whatever has been written there disappears

Many thanks

Hello M,

There are no post or blog metadata settings, which is why you can add SEO only in Site Settings.

We have added the request to fill in SEO data for post pages to our wishlist.

Hi Anna
thanks for your prompt reply. How quickly this type of request will be handled? Also how will I be notified when the feature is available?

At the same time I saw that some meta data is added to blogs but I am not sure where this content is taken since it showing something that is different that what I provided in the Site Settings

Many thanks

Hello M,

We cannot say exactly when this feature from the wishlist would be implemented.
The posts do not have their own individual settings like pages there is simply no way to separate each post and add meta tags, you can try with Post template> Additional head, but this would be the same tags for all posts.

Anna.

Hi Anna
thanks again for your support. I am still not clear about why when exporting the project, the blogs html files have some meta data, but some of this data is different than the one specified in the Site Settings.
If those blog pages are not using the generic meta data specified in the Site Settings and do not provide a mechanism to specify the individual page settings, where do they get this information from? To me this is a puzzle Is it possible they get set once based on the Site Settings but then if this information is changed, then the new data is not updated in those pages?
Many thanks
M

Hello,

For HTML export: if you add metadata in Page Settings of Blog Template, it will be exported for the blog page only.
For this, you need to add like this:

blog-temp-meta.jpg

blog-temp-source.png

Posts do not have their own metadata. In keywords and title is the title of the post.
In the same way, both posts and blog pages take common meta from Site Settings.

Please check and let us know if you have any other questions.

Anna.

Hi Anna
Thanks for getting back to me with the suggestions. Let me clarify the issues:

  1. Your suggestion seems to work only with new metadata like yous suggested. Unless I am doing something wrong, the page settings cannot be used to replace the default description specified in the site settings, see attached
  2. As far as I can see the title of the Blog Template cannot be changed and the default one is "Blog Template", which is not good for various reasons: too short for SEO and not relevant with the website
  3. The metadata description for posts does not get updated when changing the default description in the site settings. I assume that once the post is created it uses the existing default description but then any changes to the description are not reflected to the post

Let me know what your findings are and if it is possible to address those issues in a different way

Many thanks

Hello M,

Yes, the metadata specified for the blog template will work only for the blog page and cannot be used to replace the default description specified in the site settings.
Blog template title cannot be changed.
Unfortunately, posts do not have their own metadata. What exact data are you checking to be reflected on a post page?

Anna.

Hi Anna
thanks again. Is it possible to add the first 2 issues in your wishlist of features to be implemented?

As for my last point (3.). I understand the metadata cannot be changed but the problem is different. The description metadata in the post is not matching the default description. It seems that the post description is using an older version (if not the first one) of the default description and not using the most up to date one. If you want to replicate the issue, do the following:

  1. Make sure you have a description in the site settings
  2. Create a post with any content
  3. Save and export the website as HTML
  4. Check the post file and check the description, it should match what you entered originally
  5. Now go back to Site Settings and change the description with something else
  6. Repeat step 3 and check the description. Most likely you will still see the old description and not the updated one

I hope it helps
Many thanks

Hello,

The description updated in the SEO tab Site Settings was successfully applied to the post page, please check the attached screenshot.
Do you save your exported file as the new one when you export to HTML?

Hi Anna
Yes the exported files are saved as new ones. So I assume my assumption was wrong. How would you like to proceed to further investigate this issue? Can you share your project with me so I can try to see if I can reproduce the issue for you?
Many thanks
