⚠️ Nicepage missing feature ? ( Preview shortcut )

Ask a Question

Hello,

We are a web development team and we are trying out the trial version of NicePage. After trying literally ALL the alternatives on the planet, we have come to the conclusion that NicePage is the BEST html content creation tool. Our best compliments to Artisteer!

So, we would be ready to move all our production to this tool....

BUT... there is a but:

1) We cannot believe that in order to preview the content, it is necessary to CLICK on the Preview menu icon, then CLICK again on the desired browser...

We feel that this is a really 80's way of doing things and slows down the workflow... one cannot abandon the keyboard to click (twice!) with the mouse each time just to see a preview!

There should be a shortcut to launch the preview in the browser!

2) Linked to the previous point, there is another serious shortcoming. Since we work with a local web server to test our sites (like most of us web developers!), we set the local root of the Apache server to point to the temporary NicePage folder (where NicePage saves the generated html and project files for previewing)... so we can see the changes in REAL TIME... but the changes are not updated until you perform the complicated procedure described in step 1... Click... Click! If there was that damn shortcut, we could preview the changes in REAL TIME and go very fast. This would improve the efficiency of NicePage by 1000%, making it the best tool of its kind in the entire history of web development. it's a shame that this procedure is so cumbersome right now!

PLEASE tell us that we are wrong and that THERE IS A WAY to set up a shortcut to launch the preview in the browser (and thus also update the temporary html content on our disk).

Amazing software like yours cannot lack this FUNDAMENTAL feature and force the user to interrupt his workflow to click (twice) on a menu just to preview!

Previewing is the most frequent operation you perform, dozens or hundreds of times per hour, so you can't click and click every time! A waste of valuable time and efficiency....

I look forward to your feedback, THANK YOU !
Alex

Yes. Please, add such an abbreviation, it can be nap. popular F12.
And if Nicepage bosses looked at a competing Mac program - Sparkle - they would see that it is possible to make the browser window open where the real preview of the page is visible all the time even without refreshing the browser.
If something like this was used in Nicepage - it would be great.
Nicepage - download the trial version of Sparkle and check it out.

I agree with you guys. Nicepage is unique and there is no alternative.
I don't mind that you have to choose the browser you want to use for the preview. Especially if you do a lot of custom CSS, you should make sure that the site works properly in all browsers. Besides, preview is not really necessary, because you can see everything in Nicepage anyway. Nevertheless, I think the idea with the shortcut is good.
You can alternatively display the preview around the browser on a second monitor and use a Chrome plugin that automatically reloads the preview every 5 seconds.

@xvemanuelvx

To make sure the page works properly in all browsers, you need to preview the page in the actual browsers; you can't just rely on what you see on Nicepage, nor on its automatic "preview mode". This is not enough and the way it is structured now really INTERRUPTS the workflow: it is very slow and cumbersome.

NICEPAGE should allow you to set a default browser of your choice (or perhaps use the same DEFAULT browser set in the operating system as the default) and associate a SHORTCUT with it... or provide a default shortcut, if the developers prefer.

It would also be nice if it were possible to assign a different shortcut for each browser, for example you could set:

F12 ... Preview in the default browser.
F6 ... Preview in a second BROWSER (like Microsoft Edge).
F7 ... Preview in a third BROWSER (such as Opera).

And so on.

However, aside from the issue of multiple browsers, the bottom line is that NicePage MUST offer the ability to set up a shortcut to launch the preview ... or at least for the default browser! (If the developers prefer not to let us choose a custom link, they should at least provide us with a default link from the software!

As for your idea of previewing in the second monitor with Chrome's plugins/extensions to reload the page (things like LIVE RELOAD, AUTOMATIC REFRESH and so on), these only work if NICEPAGE has updated the project output files to disk... but at the moment it updates things ONLY when YOU actually and manually launch the preview procedure with the cumbersome method we're talking about... and that's when we end up chasing our tails...

@Olivia - Support Team

Yes, PLEASE, the entire web developer community begs you to add this feature to the actual software, rather than to the "wish-list". We do believe this is definitely a mandatory requirement for such software, it's not simply a "nice feature to have" Without this feature, we simply couldn't continue to use Nicepage (and we're sure the most part of developers out there would do the same) because this missing feature isn't just annoying but DO REALLY slow the workflow too much. So, please, escalate this request in the mission critical to-do list, we think it's your primary interest to offer an efficient tool. THANK YOU so much for listening to us!

I have the same problem, it is a necessary function that must be implemented as soon as possible. I hope they add it soon and it won't take a year.

Yes DanielTing ... this is a necessary feature, we agree 100%. We cannot keep clicking to launch previews as if we were using Windows '95 software, this kills our workflows! Please invite all other users to vote for this request so that NicePage developers understand the importance of this feature! (In fact, being developers themselves and, we believe, user interface experts, they should understand this very easily, knowing how frustrating it is to repeat an unnecessary mouse action like this hundreds of times for hours! ).

User experience is one of the first things that is important in determining the fate of a software

.. and if you do use preview in chrome, apparently it has to publish the whole site all over again when all I want to do is to see the one page IN MY BROWSER. The quick preview idea is good but not good enough as it often does not show exactly the same as in a browser.

I also shouldn't have to publish the entire site when I want to update a single page.

Isn't this sort of Web Dev 101?

I won't even mention that there's no sitemap feature, or robots.txt feature...

Oh.. and let's not forget about MASSIVE .css files that are completely unnecessary. I'm using a tool to remove unused CSS which seriously speeds up my websites, but after I republish, I gotta do it all over again. UGH!

Love the software but it is NOT ready for a true production environment... but it could be.

I think the folks at NP are simply taking "what's next" on the wish list instead of going with the "What's Most Important" approach.

Exactly iRazor... We agree 100% with what you said. NP could be the tool we are all waiting for, every web developer's dream tool... if only NP would listen to its potential customers and proceed to correct and implement things. Previewing and publishing are the most repeated tasks when developing a site...dozens, hundreds of times a day, and if you lose 30 seconds each time, at the end of the day you've lost hours of work and end up frustrated. We really hope they take the reins starting with the most important issues like these. Do any of you remember the merciless end that Microsoft's FrontPage Web editor came to in the 2000s? Or the end that Dreamweaver is coming to more recently? There is a need for software that is versatile, with an interface that is easy to use and modern (with keyboard shortcuts !!!!!), performs well, and has broad compatibility and adherence to responsive standards...
