Ask a Question

How can I find the name of the image file on the page ? If I click on "change image" I get a pane showing all images with their names cut-off and I still can't tell which image I am supposed to be changing.

I agree, it's not an ideal option, but it helps to know. I haven't thought about it. I am forced to change all files to replace spaces with hyphens and then reload all images again on all my pages - that's a lot of work and prone to new errors. On top of that, nicepage is very slow and each time I want to verify the pages with a browser, it takes forever to compile ( export ). Also, I don't think I can verify one page at a time, it always exports the entire site. There are several other issues regarding SEO. It seems that nicepage is not interested in SEO of the pages at all, strange. Even the ALT title for images is difficult to work with, since that text is only partly displayed in the editing pane on the right and you have to scroll through it to find the rest of text. I am still straggling trying to figure out how the Top, Bottom, Left and Right margins work. No matter what I do, I am unable to set them up correctly. When it seems that the text is aligning visually perfectly on the designer screen, it is not properly aligned when exported to a browser. Even when I use grids, the contents don't seem to be able to be properly aligned in the browser, even though the margins numbers seem to be the same. I gave up on that and just do it by trial and error - great waste of time. In some cases I just can't make it and leave it out of alignment, since there is nothing it seems I can do. Also resizing images for various screens seems to be a real pain. I think nicepage is packed with many nice features, but many basic functions that are necessary to make the pages design fast, simple and intuitive have been neglected.

Not an ideal option but if you load up the webpage in chrome and right click > Save as.. it will tell you what the filename is.

NOTE: When creating your images and after optimizing you should always use hyphens to separate parts of file names. Browsers simply do not understand blank spaces so they will automatically substitute the hex characters for blank (i believe it's 020).

Here's a tip, use the hyphenated version when you save the optimized file, and the non hyphenated to designate the local/working file. If it's hyphenated, it's ready to use on the site.

Thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, we do not provide special features for paying.

Pity.
I would pay for it. Everyone would benefit from it.

I've already asked the team several times to add the name of the image that is highlighted on the screen next to the "change image icon".
How can you design a website, if you do not know the name of the graphics inserted on the page, some pictures may differ in size and look similar, then you can distinguish them by name.
Now if there is a selected image on the page and I click the "change image" icon, the directory will open, but the selected image will not be selected in it anyway, so I still don't know which one it is.
After all, the program knows what is displayed, why can't you display the name on the program's screen. - I still can't understand it.
I want to pay for the introduction of this option - please enter the amount and account number, I will gladly pay for it even now.

Hi Paul,
No luck. All files there are ZIPpped. And they are in the Backups sub-folder.
Also, the projects backups are named so I actually can not tell which one is which. It could ( partially ) help if ( at least ) the filenames of those zipped files had a date embedded in them.
But anyway, this is not what I need. It's of no help to me.
I have to be able to find the full filename of an image that is already on the designed page, while I am designing it. I can't be unzipping the files and then searching for the image that I still don't know what its name is. This misses my point and need.
Also, I should be able to edit the filename while I am designing a page.
The whole problem began when I noticed that when your s/w is uploading the image files, it removes spaces from the filenames, instead of inserting either a dash or an underscore in place of the spaces. This makes the filenames ( meaning ) very unreadable by the search engines, by the designer and by the user.
For instance; the original file could be: "Wiring Of High Power Timer Control", which after the upload your s/w changes to "WiringOfHighPowerTimerControl", so that four words become just one. It should rather be changed to "Wiring-Of-High-Power-Timer-Control" or "Wiring_Of_High_Power_Timer_Control". Wouldn't you agree ?
On top of that, while designing a page, there is nowhere that I can see an image filename on screen and if I go to update the image, all images have only partial names listed, like in this case it would only show: "WiringOfHighPowerTime....", which is even worse.
In many pages, like in mine, the filenames can not and should not be short, because they would not describe their contents sufficiently or clearly. I know that I can do that in the ALT image description, but this is not the point.
The same problem with hyperlinks to files.
Even though I can see a filename, but it also has spaces removed and in addition it is shown in the menu as a partial name, so I can not be sure which file it actually is, if I have several of them with similar beginning, and I do.
I realize that in the compiled code and for hyperlinks there should be no spaces, but there could be dashes or underscores.
I think that best solution could be if there was a selection that the designer could make between: "no spaces" or "replace with dash" or "replace with underscore".
Would that make sense ?

Not withstanding the above, I think your s/w is a very well designed tool and I like it, despite many drawbacks that I keep finding.
I hope you are not becoming annoyed by mine frequent requests for help.

Hi, Arkadiusz,

You can find it in the Project folder that is located in Documents/Nicepage. Just open the images folder, and you will see all the needed information.

It works only if you use Nicepage Desktop as all Projects from this app are stored locally.

Let us know if you need our further help!
