I'm interested in the plugin and the membership, but the hosting that is added in the package is just extra bloat that I don't need.....

The desktop app and online app/hosting were combined a few months ago without a price increase.
If you only want to use the desktop app and your own host, you can easily.
You don’t need to use anything else.

Is that cheaper? I can not find it as an offering on your site. I want the templates and the rest of the package. I can not find the stand alone version without the hosting license needed anywhere on the site.

There's no stand-alone version without hosting.
All Nicepage licenses come with hosting. However, you can use your own hosting service.

A few months ago they were separate products with separate prices.
They combined them WITHOUT increasing the price.

So the plugin used to be good, but now it has API connections to slow down my site as it makes calls to your host?

The plugin does not have anything to do with hosting.
The Nicepage CMS plugins allow you to create and \ or edit pages and content on your CMS.
