How do I turn the background color of the footer transparant while still showing an image in it?

Sure.
The footer itself is rectangular, but I wish the top to be wavy. I added a background image that is wavy on the top (a bit hard to see because the color is very light), but the rectangular top of the footer remains visible. If I do not set the image as background than I can make it a bit larger than the footer and that kinda solves the problem, however, than the footer becomes much too large. If i would be able to set the footer to transparent with the image still visible than that would solve the problem.
