Ask a Question

Hi, there!
I would appreciate it if you could indicate how we can change the default browser used by NP when opening links from within NP or when publishing webpages.

I have searched and checked the settings options in the app, but could not find a relevant setting.

Thanks,
Andre

Likewise here. Had to re-install Chrome (I use Firefox) on my Mac, just to get some information about an update.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay (due to the weekend).

Nicepage uses the default browser that you set for your OS. It can be changed both in the OS settings and in the browser settings.

Let us know if you need our further help!

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the feedback.
It was my assumption that it is supposed to work like that, but unfortunately, it does not.
I have Edge, Edge Dev, Firefox and Firefox Dev as browsers on my Win10 Pro x64 machine (version 20H2).
My default browser used to be Firefox, but I switched it to Firefox Dev.
The default browser works with all my other applications, new and more legacy apps too.
With Nicepage it keeps on going back to opening my original Firefox browser, not the Dev installation.

It seems that the issue might be in the registry entry or could it be that the OS can't differentiate between Firefox and Firefox Dev maybe?
I have installed the latest version of NP (4.9) last week.

Please advise,
Regards,
Andre

Hi, Andre,

For testing, I installed Firefox Dev, set it as the default browser, opened Nicepage, went to a link in the Project, and Firefox Dev opened. Please try to set Firefox (not Dev) as the default browser, close Nicepage, make Firefox Dev the default browser again, run Nicepage, and open a link again. What result will you get?

Hi Paul,
Thanks for getting back.

I have tried your approach but it was not successful. When I do a preview and Select "Firefox" the preview opens in Firefox Standard and not Firefox Dev.
When I publish the site to the nicepage.io domain, it defaults to opening in Firefox, and nothing will make it budge from going there.
I checked my registry settings and Firefox Dev is set as the default.
The reason I was thinking that it might be some Reg key issue that is locked-in, was that when I installed and started using NP, Firefox standard was my go-to browser. Mozilla is messing up unfortunately as their browser is exceptionally slow and resource-intensive when compared directly with Edge using the same browser windows.

I then changed my default browser to MS Edge, hoping that it would use Edge as the default, but it refuses to use the system default browser. I'm quite baffled by this...
I have included a screenshot, indicating that out of the two Moz products, Firefox Dev is set as the default in the registry.

Any other ideas? Uninstall and reinstall Nicepage is going to be my next plan of action, unless you guys have other possible solutions.
Regards,
Andre

Hi, Andre,

I tested the browser preview as well, and the developer version of Firefox opened (I have both the regular and developer editions). Yes, please try to reinstall Nicepage and tell us about the result (just in case, make the backup of your Projects before that).

Hi Paul,
I have tried your recommendation and uninstalled and re-installed Nicepage.
I saw v4.10 was released, so I installed it, thinking something might have been updated to fix the issue I had.

Well, it didn't. As soon as I selected "View all updates" on the Recent News and Updates opening splash modal on v4.10, Firefox was used as the browser.

Before doing the above, I have switched my default browser to MS Edge three days ago in an attempt to get rid of any "Mozilla-related" browser linking. My day-to-day apps all open in Edge, and I was expecting Nicepage to do the same, but nope, did not happen. It seems to be completely "in love" with Firefox on my machine.

I then went and uninstalled Firefox without closing Nicepage, and tried the link "View all updates" on the Recent News and Updates, and sure it opened in Edge. Weird... OK, so keeping all open I set my default browser to Firefox Dev, and yes it opened in Firefox Dev straight away. Switched it back again to Edge and it opened in Edge as is the expected standard behavior.

The strangest thing is why is it only Nicepage that retains this "invisible thread-link" to Firefox and the other apps don't?
Something your developers might be able to fix, I'm sure.
FYI: The version of Firefox I used when the issue persisted was v99. Edge and Firefox Dev are on v100.

So at this stage I can move forward, but I still insist, there is some issue with NP retaining that "invisible thread" to the original browser it saw when installed the first time ;-)

Keep well,
Andre.

I am having a similar issue except my default browser is Brave and NP keeps opening links in Chrome, which has NEVER been my default browser and I have only kept on my computer for school. Were you able to solve the issue?
