Legal issue: Not using Google Fonts

Ask a Question

According to a recent court ruling, it is forbidden for me in Germany to run a website with Google Fonts. Since the accused had to pay 25,000 euros in the judgment, I really want to be sure.

The judgment assumes that a website has to do completely without access to Google servers. I only own the small license that officially doesn't have Google Fonts in it (I think). I use Roboto as a font, and Roboto is a Google Font, isn't it?

Please help here.

Hi,

Angela

Hi,
you can activate "Embed Google Fonts" under "Site Settings", Tab GDPR. Then the Google Fonts are saved directly in the project. If this is not possible in your license (I don't know), you can also manually integrate the Google Fonts locally with the Google Webfonts Helper. Is not an act, instructions here (at the bottom of the page): https://www.webdesign-journal.de/google-webfonts-einverbinding/

Many greetings
angela

Philip,

Yes. And you can download any required font and use it as required for the legislation, and in the Nicepage Editor, you can use it as a Custom Font.

Hello Philip,

Yes, it's okay that your website uses code for Google maps if you use it on your page and also fonts stylesheets.
If you mean any additional code please refer to it and we will be happy to check and help.

Is there a line of code that i can delete to get rid of google fonts? Even if i upload my own custom fonts, google fonts is still being loaded.

Please specify what website are you using. You can create a separate private ticket and attach your HTML website so that we can assist you in this matter.

Thank you.

@Support: Is it possible to deactivate using Google Fonts to upload it manually WITHOUT using desktop application?

Yes CSS is a way, but in desktop application you show a checkbox for this. Please make it possible to switch it within wordpress directly.

In germany it is actually a big problem with loading google fonts from google server. You would help german users alot if you provide such a function or details how to change this very quick.

Hello daniel949,

For a WordPress site and Nicepage theme, you need to check the box in your theme file with the desktop application, upload it into WordPress, set it as default, and check your Nicepage page with the editor, Site settings, and check the box.
Please try this option and let us know if you have any other questions.
