Having said that, I think the steps are:

1), change the default template
2). delete my template
3). export my template from my local workstation with all the changes
4). upload the new template into the live site and make it active.

Would you agree that these are the steps?

Hello, I am trying to understand how I can refresh my Wordpress Template and Site. My site is live but I need to make changes, notably I cannot update the footer or header inside Wordpress, plus I have to make some of my pictures smaller to increase performance. How do I upload a site made in nice from desktop to wordpress

I did it, I exported it, I uploaded it to wordpress but it does not work at all even if I import the content but nothing appears at all

Yes, that is the correct approach. You need to disable the old theme on the site and import the new one exported from the desktop application.
