you installed a newer version than your license allowed. if you have a version higher than 4.0, you're using a version beyond your updates license and thus need to renew your updates period. If your license expired on Dec 5th, you can only use version 4.0 without limitations.
Lifetime license means you can use the last version under your updates period for life, if you want to install and use a higher version you need to renew your support and updates plan. In your case 4.1 was released on Dec 6th and 4.2 on Dec 15th, both AFTER your plan expired.
