Ask a Question

how do I use chrome to edit with the nicepage extension if the website does not have ssl installed? I just get an error when trying to login to the admin area, "your connection to this site is not private".
I have turned off the Mark non-secure origins as non-secure in the chrome flags settings, and deleted browsing data.
Thanks for any help.

ok, I installed ssl, so it is a moot point on this site, but am still curious because I have several clients who do not have ssl installed yet.

Hi Robyn,

You can keep your site without SSL, however, Google prefers SSL/HTTPS based sites which means a better treatment in indexing and search result listing. That's why Google Chrome browser has started flagging all HTTP websites as “Not Secure” (untrustworthy) and throws out a warning. So it will be up to end-user whether to proceed with the non-SSL site or not. That's why it is a best practice to use SSL certificate for your site.

No, you misunderstand. I'm not talking about an error browsing the site, I"m talking about not being able to login to the joomla admin area at all. so there is no way to edit the site within the chrome browser using joomla. I fully understand the need for ssl, however some of my clients do not get the ssl until closer to the time we launch the site to live, and some of my clients do not want it at all because they feel there is no need because they do not take any info from their clients, etc. I cannot force them to get it. Regardless, I will be glad when NicePage is available in Firefox.
Thanks
Robyn

Robyn,

"m talking about not being able to login to the joomla admin area at all.

Do you mean that you cannot login to the Joomla admin panel? Or you mean that you you cannot login in the Nicepage editor vis Joomla admin panel? In the first case the issue has no relation to Nicepage because you're trying to login to the Joomla.
But in any case, Chrome provides the option to load the page as it is (unsafe). You should be able to access the Joomla admin panel without ssl certificate too.

@robyn6, I clearly understand what do you mean. Simply remove https from your client website url, just use http then problem not happen anymore. for first time click "advance" tab from that page & click "Proceed to example.com (unsafe)" then remove "s" from your client website then try to login as normally.
