Joomla System Menu

Report a bug

Sometime back I had mentioned there were issues with the Joomla menu integration. All of these issues occur under the 'System Links' selections when creating a new menu item. I'll lay out the issues by each selection.

Heading Menu - this selection results in a text only representation without any button appearance or adherence to button settings. Two of these in a menu / submenu format have no spacing and are lumped together without any vertical separation.
Menu Item Alias - This appears as a normal button appearance with the remainder of the menu, but does nothing.
Separator This menu item displays correctly and will display the appropriate submens. But the Hamburger menu on the mobile view does nothing. It only shows the primary menu items and the 'separators' have action to expose the 2nd menu options.

Mobile issues:
The Hamburger menu is to be set to off canvas, but using either the only click or reload option, Menu Item Aliases will display a down arrow, but do nothing on selection. Using the Menu Separator options, it expands for the menu options but the options will not appear as buttons until they are touched, and they don't go to the menu selection. Only when the menu selection is 'Heading' and has a simple page article assigned to it will the mobile menu open and display every button correctly while using the Hamburger grid.

You may find these issues presently on my mothers Obituary and Eulogy page. I had to tear out the existing site and replace it and create the current content because purchasing another domain wasn't an option. So you can go to https://upstatewebdesign.tech and view how it works correctly with the desktop menu through the tablet, but on the phone it is a total disaster and cost me many sleepless nights trying to fix it among the questions and complaints coming from family and friends over issue.

It's been three weeks know since her passing and this is the first time I have been up to posting on this issue. As noted, I had pointed the issue using Menu Alias a year ago along with the workaround to use the Separator option to display the button properly but I didn't trying using the mobile menu at the time to discover these other issues.

These are really crucial features used in many a Joomla site with multiple menus and user areas. It needs to be addressed and corrected as quickly as possible.

Hi Doug,

Heading Menu - this selection results in a text only representation without any button appearance or adherence to button settings. Two of these in a menu / submenu format have no spacing and are lumped together without any vertical separation.

This type of menu item does not contain a link. This is plain text. Therefore it does not use styles of the menu links. We recommend that you use Separator instead.

Menu Item Alias - This appears as a normal button appearance with the remainder of the menu, but does nothing.

Please note that Nicepage does not control the functionality of the Joomla menu item types. Please check the Joomla documentation regarding this item type.

Separator This menu item displays correctly and will display the appropriate submens. But the Hamburger menu on the mobile view does nothing. It only shows the primary menu items and the 'separators' have action to expose the 2nd menu options.

This item does not have a page linked to it. It uses #. Therefore, if the Nicepage menu uses the "With Reload" method to open submenus they will not appear as this item cannot reload the page. Please try the "On click" option (NP Menu >> Hamburger panel). But if this option is used the items that have links to pages will not open corresponding pages. Unfortunately, you cannot use both options at the same time.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Olivia

Olivia,
It's disappointing to see you spent no time at all on the problem. You usually do better than this. But this just plain bites.

It would help if you read the entire thing. All of the menu functions WORK with the Desktop browsers. Where they fell apart is in the mobile functions. The Hamburger mode just plain didn't work. If you had tried the link, it would have been clearer.

BTW. the Menu Alias is like a regular link, except it points to a link on another menu object. Worked fine under Artisteer and Themler so it's a bit disingenuous to point to Joomla as the issue. It isn't. It also works in Nicepage everywhere EXCEPT the Hamburger menu.

The separator menu items functions the same as the Menu Heading function, Again, Artisteer and Themler had no issues with handling either Nor Nicepage, again it did NOT work using the hamburger menu. You could switch the mobile browser to Desktop mode and the menu items all worked.

I used both Artisteer and Themler on the Joomla 3.x series. The menu functionality In Joomla has not changed since 2004. In light of this, your answer is superfluous and entirely unhelpful. Attention to detail would be appreciated.

Hi Doug,

We apologize for the delay in reply.

Separator and alias are links. The only difference is that the separator opens the page and the alias does not. As a result, no matter what option we choose to open subitems, one option will not work.
Alias is a simple link, just like any other. For a Nicepage menu, the difference is there is no alias it or not. This is a regular link.
So in the responsive menu, either subitems will open, or the parent menu item will open (but the separator does not have it).
Most likely in this case it does not work.
