Ask a Question

I have a single page website consisting of, for instance, the Home block and 6 other blocks (blocks A-F).
I’ve got a menu with Home, Block A, Block B, Block C, Block D, Block E, Block F
I’ve got a link to an external page in block C.
If I start on the Home block, and use the menu to jump to Block C, then select the link to the external page, then use the browser’s back key, I end up back on Block C (as expected).
If I then use the menu to go to Block E, and then use the browser’s back key, the external page opens again. I’d like the back key to put me back on Block C, rather than open the external page.

i.e. is there a way for the back key to treat the selections from the menu (that jump between blocks on a single page website) like it treats the link to the external page.

I hope this makes sense.

Hi Roger,

The browser back button does not work with anchor links. It works with page links only.

If you go to Wikipedia for example and click a link in the "content" section near the top of the page, then click the back button in the browser or the back button on your mouse, it takes you back to the top of the page. So it's definitely do-able. Probably a piece of JavaScript that achieves this?

I'd like this same back button behavior to work with the anchor links I've created on my site - at present, it does not. If I click a link on the page, then click the back button, nothing happens.

Hello Roger,

Unfortunately, Nicepage doesn't provide such functionality.
As my colleague previously told:
The browser back button does not work with anchor links. It works with page links only.
In you example with Wikipedia - not anchor link's used.

We can suggest you only find some workaround with JavaScript applied.
