Ask a Question

Hello Support,
Why does Nicepage create Home.html and index.html?
I have to manually change all the links in the source code to index.html so the menu's on all pages reflect index.html, not Home.html. Is there any way to eliminate the reference to Home.html?

Hi Bill,

Some of the servers require index.html file to load the page. You do not need to change links manually, everything will be working fine.

Yes, I realize that.....BUT.....
I don't want links to revert to Home.html, I want them to revert to index.html e.g: if I set an anchor link #about, I want it to point to index.html#about NOT Home.html#about
Which leads to my question: why does Nicepage create a Home.html and an index.html? All I need is an index.html

Thank you

Hi,

The index.html file does not exist in the project. It is created during the export as a copy of the page specified as the home page under the Site Settings. Therefore, you cannot select index.html as the page in Nicepage editor.

Which is why I edit the code to point all links to index.html after publish e.g: index.html#about instead of Home.html#about and all other anchor links. If someone was on a page called Gallery, and the header menu has a link to #about if they clicked the link it would go to Home.html#about which is not what is intended, should go to index.html#about. I'll just continue to edit the anchor links after publish, no big deal just a pain in the A**, if you know what I mean (wink).

It should probably be done the other way around.
The home page should be called index.html by default, and create a copy called home.html if for some reason it's needed.

I totally agree! No need for a Home.html and index.html. index.html is the go-to format

I think no need to have both Home.html and index.html specially when it comes to Google Search console.
I have a problem with this issue, Google send a notification to me for all my websites indicating this error: "Page indexing, Duplicate, Google chose different canonical than user"

Hi,

The index page is necessary as it was explained above. Please try to set the canonical links in the settings or simply ignore Google notifications as they are not always actual and critical.

It blow my mind that nicepage think it's ok to duplicate webpages.

If we create a website with only 1 page it should be index.html ONLY not the name we give to the page...in fact we should not give a name for a single page website.

software that rank our homepage it rank worst if we have a problem. we will have 2x more problems because it detects in both pages same problem.

I'm trying to have my pages near to 100% score and I notice that nicepage doesn't optimize code to be efficient. Please, review your internal code to give us cleanner code. stop adding stuff, optimize what you already have first. Thanks.
