Would it be possible to have icons linkeble to? Like a maps icon that opens to google maps or whatever? Because as soon as the text disappears from a button, you can no longer link it.

Hello Dennis,

Absolutely.
Add the desired icon >> click on the Hyperlink button (the chain icon) >> choose from the window the needed option.

Hello Dennis,

It works the same in the footer.
As I understand, you added Button with Icon and then removed the Button text. The Button icon itself cannot be linked. If you need the Icon only please use the Icon control. To add the Button Text back please navigate the Button on the Outline tab on the left-side panel and type the text.
