Ask a Question

Hello again. I'm working on my first nicepage site and I have to say I'm really happy with how it works and how my site looks. You all have done a great job creating nicepage in my opinion, and I hope you can make this software become the best in class as soon as possible if it's not already the best in class.

I'm sorry if this is covered somewhere already, but I'm just learning the software and sometimes I just want to get to an answer as quickly as possible. Here is my question:

Let's assume I have completed my website design in the nicepage app on my local computer and I have followed the instructions to upload it with the contents and everything is working as it should. When it comes time for me to edit the site and add pages and content, do I want to edit the site on the live site on the Internet or do I want to edit the site on my local computer and update the live site? If it's better to do updates on my local computer how do I update the live site without losing all the extensions and configurations I have made on the live site? If I do updates on my live site on the Internet how do I update my local computer? I assume it's best to have them both in sync, but maybe that's not really necessary?

Hi Randy,

Sorry for the delay in replying. Please let me know what export type you are using? I assume that you have some CMS and the Nicepage plug-in installed on the site. Then you have two option. The one is to edit the content of the site on the live site using the Nicepage plug-in. In this case you won't be able to transfer those pages into the desktop application, the content will be stored on your site only. And the desktop application may be used to update the theme and maybe add some new pages as well. So the main point is that the pages created on the live site cannot be transferred into the desktop application.
The second option is to create all the content in the desktop application. Then you can export the content separately and install it again on your site.
In my opinion, the more convenient option is to keep on editing the pages in your live site if you do not need them in your desktop application.
And regarding the extensions, nothing will be overridden on your site when you install the new theme and content, that is similar to any other theme for CMS. Extensions are installed separately and the theme does not override them.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hella

I am currently using Joomla for this project, and I am using the desktop app, but yes, the plugin is installed on my live site as well. I think I have how to update the live site all figured out already. Just export from the App and upload to the site. I've done it a couple times already.

Seems to me it might make sense to be able to export the live site to the app, but I could be wrong. Either way, I will just have to use it as you have created it, and that seems to be working fine so far. Thank you for your help.

So, one creates the site with the desktop solution. Then an export to (in my case) Wordpress. All is OK. Now, I update some info on my desktop(application) and want to export (import in WP).

Is there a way to import the updates? Or does one need to install the "newly exported' theme?

Thanks for any pointers to this issue.

Rgds

Hi Koen,

Let me explain a bit. You can edit all the content on the live site. If you need to edit the theme part (header, footer, blog and post templates) then you need to open the desktop application with your theme and edit it. Then export only theme and install a new theme on your site. If you want to edit the content in the desktop application as well, then you can export the content separately and when importing it in your site, override the old content.
Probably the best way is to use the plug-in on your site for content editing and export new theme from the desktop application once you need to edit some design part.
Let me know if you need more information.

Wordfence notified me that my Wordpress Nicepage plugin has an update, yet when I go to my dashboard there is no way to update it nor does it show it needs an update current version is 2.26.2. How do I update if it is needed? Usually the plugin will indicate it needs an update but not in this case. Please advise.
